Mentor Role Description


  Title:                  Volunteer Mentor

  Main role:         To mentor a young person aged between 10-16 years old


    Roles involved in Mentoring:

  • To build a relationship with a young person (mentee)

  • To plan and participate in mentoring activities with a young person

  • To provide a young person with support, friendship and a ‘listening ear’

  • To encourage the young person to enhance their personal development and social skills, and increase their confidence and self esteem


   Task Involved in Mentoring:

  • To meet a young person on a regular basis for two to three hours

  • To attend and participate in regular supervision and training sessions

  • To complete feedback sheets in conjunction meeting the young person

  • To maintain record of agreed amount of expenditure- keep all receipts and claim back expenses on a monthly basis including travel expenses.


   Time Commitment:

  • To commit to the program for a minimum of 6 months

  • To meet the young person, preferably once a week, for two to three hours at an appropriate location and time

  • Attend regular supervision and /or group support session
